Today I have discovered that the language barrier is bitter/sweet! When we arrived at the village there were BEAUTIFUL little faces there to greet us! They waved us all the way into shore and took our hands to help us as we balanced accross logs to dry ground! As we made our way up the hill the church they walked with us, still holding some hands, but never losing their smiles! We were literally welcomed with open arms! After talking about the language barrier keeping us from forming personal relationships--I thought to myself, this cannot be all that bad! I faced the same feelings that were discussed, as well as those that just made me feel warm inside. We worshiped with these people in a church with wooden benches, open windows, and no air conditioning on the top of a hill facing the amazon river! We sang, clapped, jumped, danced, laughed, prayed, and hugged one another as if we had been going to church together for years (in a lot of ways...much closer than some in the churches back home) Although I could not sing along and understood very little of the sermon this morning...I could feel the Holy Spirit in that little build, without air conditioning, on top of this mountain!
What a wonderful people...what a wonderful God!
The other language barrier that I have had difficulty face...believe it or not...is that of the internet! It has been difficult for communication to not be as easily accessable, understandable, and clear. Like I said...the Lord tests us in these uncomfortable situations, for us to rely on his grace and our faith in Him to get us through!
Oh...one last thing! Say a prayer, we are going to our first restaurant for dinner in the city tonight!
XOXO
